What is Compost
The word compost comes from the Latin word compositum, which means to put together. Compost is a type of organic substrate that results from the decomposition of plant residues in a specific recycling process.

A good compost, rich in humic substances, is an excellent substrate for pots, but also an additional and improving component for the soil, as it comes from the recycling of organic waste. It can be used in all crops, as it does not contain pathogens and contains high amounts of nutrients.

To make compost we must have the following materials at our disposal:

  1. Animal manure
  2. Other materials of animal origin
  3. Plant residues, such as leaves, stems and bark.
  4. Mineral materials, especially rock dust

We should not worry that various types of pathogenic microorganisms can be transferred to plants with the materials placed in the compost. The elevated temperatures in the compost, along with various antibiotic substances produced by the compost fungi, destroy pathogens from viruses, microbes and parasites.

The time it takes for compost to fully mature depends on its production method, weather conditions and can range from one month to 2 years.

Compost is a living being because it constitutes a nutritional value for the soil, as it provides it with all the beneficial microorganisms and enlivens it, therefore the health of your plants requires the use of a good compost.
